GPU repair shop offers GeForce RTX 2080 Ti 22GB memory upgrade

Repair service can double GeForce RTX 2080 Ti memory to 22GB

Graphics card upgrades usually involve replacing the entire card. GPU Solutions offers another option for owners of compatible GeForce RTX models, replacing the original memory modules with higher-capacity chips.

The service can upgrade the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti from 11GB to 22GB of GDDR6 memory. The company also lists an RTX 3070 conversion from 8GB to 16GB. Each upgrade requires removing the original chips, installing 2GB modules and testing the card under load.

For the RTX 2080 Ti, the technician must also change the memory strap resistor configuration on the PCB. This allows the GPU to detect the larger memory configuration. GPU Solutions previously demonstrated the process on an ASUS ROG Strix RTX 2080 Ti.

From what I recall such mods started after the NVIDIA hack which revealed some internal tools to modders and repair shops. They have been using this knowledge across RTX 20/30/40 and even 50 series to some degree.

So the service itself is not new. The repair shop advertised the conversion around two years ago. An archived version of the page reviewed by VideoCardz listed the RTX 2080 Ti upgrade at AED 860, approximately $234 at the time (in January)This is an old price and does not reflect the current cost.

Asus RTX 2080 Ti 11GB to 22GB VRAM Upgrade

GPU Solutions updated the page this year as graphics memory became more expensive. The current page no longer lists a price for the conversion. More VRAM will not increase the RTX 2080 Ti GPU’s processing performance, but it may help with AI models, content creation and games that exceed the original 11GB capacity.
