Best Buy raises high-end GeForce RTX 50 pricing, first RTX 5080 now exceeds RTX 5090 MSRP

ASUS RTX 5080 crosses RTX 5090 MSRP

Best Buy has raised prices for several GeForce RTX 50 graphics cards in the US. The ASUS ROG Astral RTX 5080 OC is now listed at $2,099.99, up $200 from its previous $1,899.99 price. It is now $100 more expensive than NVIDIA’s $1,999 launch price for the GeForce RTX 5090.

ROG Astral RTX 5080 is now 40% above its launch price

ASUS launched the ROG Astral RTX 5080 OC at $1,499.99 in January 2025 . The new Best Buy price represents a $600 increase, or 40%, compared with the card’s original US price. It is also $1,100 above NVIDIA’s $999 price for the RTX 5080 Founders Edition.

This is the first standard RTX 5080 model we have seen sold directly by a major US retailer for more than the RTX 5090 MSRP. Best Buy continues to list the RTX 5090 Founders Edition at $1,999.99, although the card is currently sold out.

Select RTX 5090 cards also receive higher pricing

The changes also cover several RTX 5090 models. The ASUS ROG Astral RTX 5090 is now listed at $4,829.99, while the MSI RTX 5090 Suprim Liquid SOC has reached $4,599.99. Reddit users reported that the ASUS card increased by $500 during the latest adjustment.

The pricing update does not affect every RTX 50 model equally. Best Buy currently lists the PNY RTX 5080 ARGB OC at $1,399.99, while several other RTX 5080 cards remain below $1,500. This indicates that the retailer is adjusting individual models rather than applying one increase to the full series.

The good news (not many these days) is that BestBuy isn’t the only store around. The cheapest RTX 5080 is currently the same PNY model just sold elsewhere at $1257. I wouldn’t say buy it before you can, rather just assume GPUs won’t get cheaper anytime soon.
