AMD has started adding Ryzen Zen 6 "client" CPU support for its HSMP driver, spanning Olympic Ridge & Medusa Point families.
With the launch of the first Zen 6 CPUs in the EPYC 9006 family , AMD is now gearing up to bring the same architecture to its client-based lineups.
As per the latest Linux Kernel patches, AMD has enabled support for several Zen 6 client families, which will be part of the Ryzen product portfolio. There are three families listed, which include:
- Olympic Ridge (Models 88h-8Fh)
- Medusa1 (80h-87h)
- Medusa2 (E0h-E3h)
This series enables the HSMP driver on the Family 1Ah client platforms
- Medusa1 (Models 80h-87h),
- Olympic Ridge (Models 88h-8Fh)
- Medusa2 (Models E0h-E3h)
and adds the two read-only ioctls that bring-up on those parts needs.
The client parts drive a different mailbox from the server HSMP interface. Its SMN addresses are fixed rather than discoverable through firmware, and the parts speak the Ryzen Master SMC message set instead of the server message IDs.

The three families will feature the latest Zen 6 core architectures, ranging from Zen 6, Zen 6C, and Zen 6LP. At the top is the Ryzen Olympic Ridge family, which will be aimed at desktops featuring the AM5 socket. These chips will feature up to 24 cores and 48 threads, up to 288 MB of L3 cache, and various architectural uplifts. We talked more about what to expect from Zen 6-based Desktop CPUs here .
The Medusa 1 and Medusa 2 families are interesting. These will be mainstream mobile parts featuring up to 22 cores and 44 threads . This will be a big increase (+83%) over the existing Strix Point chips, which pack up to 12 cores and 24 threads. There will be several variants in the lineup, including 10-core SKUs which have already leaked out .

The Medusa 2 family will be a more cost-optimized option like previous Phoenix 2 and Hawk Point 2 chips. These chips will be aimed at the entry-level segment and will tackle the likes of Intel Core Series 3-tier SoCs. AMD is also working on its high-end Medusa Halo lineup, which will feature the RDNA 5 iGPU core, though standard Medusa APUs will stick with RDNA 3.5+ iGPUs .

AMD's Olympic Ridge "Ryzen Desktop" family is expected to roll out early next year , while Medusa APUs are also expected to roll out around a similar timeframe, with various laptop designs to be unveiled at CES 2027. AMD has just started its Zen 6 journey, and we expect it to last several years before the eventual arrival of the next-gen Zen 7 core architecture, which has already been unveiled.
