The High Court on Friday dismissed an application for judicial review by Raymond Lam & Associates after the firm, which ceased operations in April, notified in writing that it would discontinue the legal action.
The firm is the subject of an ongoing police investigation into an alleged fraud syndicate. It is accused of seeking exorbitant damages from drivers involved in minor or even fabricated traffic accidents.
Detectives from the force’s commercial crime bureau raided Raymond Lam Yat-wah’s office at the CMB Wing Lung Bank Centre in Mong Kok on February 9 and seized 68 files related to 64 lawsuits.
The force believes those cases could involve offences of fraud, attempted fraud and using false documents.
The law firm lodged the challenge a week later, seeking the return of documents it said contained confidential letters and medical documents belonging to clients.
