After a long wait, Final Fantasy VII Revelation was officially revealed for PC , PlayStation 5 , Xbox Series X , Xbox Series S and Nintendo Switch 2 last month. Although the long showing did an excellent job teasing how the third entry in the series will perfect the formula introduced in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth , it did not provide a precise release date besides a generic Spring 2027 window , suggesting the game could release in the tail end of the season , such as late April or even May . However, some recent statements from Naoki Hamaguchi suggest the game may launch as early as March .
"The starting point was when we were having conversations internally about the release dates of both Evercold and Revelation, and the release windows are quite close together," Hamaguchi-san told the Express , commenting on the Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy XIV collaboration announced during the MMO's Fan Fest in Berlin . "So the idea was that instead of just keeping them completely separate, why don't we do something together to really energize the Final Fantasy franchise as a whole?"
On paper, this statement doesn't say much about Final Fantasy VII Revelation's release date , but it actually does if one connects the dots . For starters, the Evercold expansion launches in January 2027 , so a late April or May release window wouldn't exactly be as close as Hamaguchi-san said. In addition, a March/April release window would fit perfectly with the series' launch dates , as Final Fantasy VII Remake was originally scheduled for an early March release before getting delayed to April 10 , while F inal Fantasy VII Rebirth launched on February 29, 2024 . A January/March release window would definitely fit the "close" definition .
Looking at Square Enix's conservative earnings forecasts for the remainder of the fiscal year , however, one may think Final Fantasy VII Revelation may release in April at the earliest . On the other hand, this is entirely in line with how Square Enix handled earnings forecasts ahead of Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth .
As such, these forecasts , which can be revised once pre-orders go live , don't necessarily suggest that Square Enix will launch only Final Fantasy Resonance and Final Fantasy XIV Evercold before March 31 , making a March release date quite possible, in light of Hamaguchi-san's recent statement .
No matter when Final Fantasy VII Revelation launches, I personally can't wait to get my hands on it. As I have loved the original game ever since I played it for the first time in late 1997 while firmly believing Final Fantasy VII Rebirth one of the best entries in the series to date , I am really looking forward to see how the final entry in the series enhances world exploration with the Highwind airship and Rebirth's perfect combat system .
