Manufacturing complexities and costs prevent smartphone makers from attempting to materialize a truly bezel-less form factor, but TECNO has presented the first concept to usher in this design with a prototype that will unravel your understanding of how such devices look and feel. It’s truly a marvel to behold, but will it ever enter mass production? Highly unlikely.
It’s one thing to shrink the bezels, but another to eliminate them entirely, and that’s what TECNO has accomplished with its newest concept. The company says that its newest entrant has a 0mm border around the display, offering a seamless, uninterrupted view of what’s in front of you. The images show virtually no visible black bars, indicating that TECNO has achieved the impossible and done so before Apple announces its iPhone 20 Pro and iPhone 20 Pro Max next year.
Achieving a truly bezel-less display is more complex than you might think, as TECNO reveals it needed to employ advanced internal stacking, structural engineering, and new packaging techniques to eliminate bezels. The company also decided to take some jabs at Apple by comparing its concept smartphone to the iPhone 17 Pro below. As you can tell, there’s a “day and night” difference between the two devices.
We can also imagine how costly it would be to offer consumers that 0mm smartphone, which is why we’ve yet to see any concept undergo mass production. There’s also an under-display camera to achieve that full-screen appearance, and while this approach brings TECNO one step closer to achieving its desired goals, its primary drawback is degraded image quality.
The Chinese manufacturer isn’t a stranger to these concepts, and it has conceptualized several ideas, with none of them entering volume production. For instance, the SPARK Slim was thinner than the Galaxy S25 Edge but packed a significantly bigger battery , while the Phantom Ultimate 2 was an amazing attempt to create a brilliant tri-fold smartphone that never made it into a customer’s hands.
In short, we believe this bezel-less concept will meet the same fate, unless some other manufacturer has found a way to drastically reduce production costs.
