A Ryzen 7 9800X3D’s Temperature Drops By 19°C Using A 3D-Printed Modular Chimney Cooler That’s Too Tall To Fit In Any Computer Case In The World

The 3D V-Cache design of the Ryzen 7 9800X3D delivers unrivaled gaming performance but also acts as a thermal blanket, which explains why this CPU runs hotter than most, despite adequate cooling installed. However, a YouTuber went the extra mile by developing a 3D-printed chimney several inches tall to drop those temperatures by an impressive 19°C. The only catch is that it’s impossible to fit this cooler in any consumer computer chassis.

The 3D-printed parts were placed on the Ryzen 7 9800X3D’s water cooler to circulate the coolant, with the 240mm radiator used to expel hot air but without fans. Instead, YouTuber der8auer used the enclosures to stack them on top of one another. Attaching a single 3D-printed chimney with a height of 20cm also showed positive results, lowering the Ryzen 7 9800X3D temperatures by a small amount while it was drawing 100W.

When the height reached 110cm, which is almost as high as the YouTuber’s ceiling, the temperatures fell drastically to the point that der8auer wasn’t even able to take the reading properly. To show that this cooling system was working, the YouTuber used a fog gun to demonstrate that the air was being sucked into the chamber, creating the stack effect that der8auer mentioned in the video.

Reaching the maximum height possible, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D temperatures reduced by 19°C (from 90°C to 71°C), which impressed der8auer, as he states in the video that he wasn’t expecting such results. The only drawback for regular users wishing to attempt this is that they’ll need a ton of height clearance to attempt the experiment, and even then, they’ll have to assemble all components on a test bench because there’s no way all of these enclosures can be outfitted in a casing.
