AMD Ryzen 9 3950H Edition appears in PassMark with six cores

I thought this might be an interesting topic. An unknown AMD processor called the Ryzen 9 3950H Edition has appeared in the PassMark database. AMD has not announced a mobile processor under this name, and it does not appear in the company’s public product specifications.
PassMark reports six cores, six threads, 3MB of L2 cache and 8MB of L3 cache. The processor achieved 8,700 points in the multithreaded test and 1,730 points in the single-threaded test. PassMark has recorded only one sample, so it lists the margin of error as high.
Specifications closely match Ryzen 5 4500U
The configuration closely matches the Ryzen 5 4500U, a 7nm Renoir mobile processor released in 2020. That processor also has six cores, six threads, 3MB of L2 cache and 8MB of L3 cache. Its official base clock is 2.3 GHz, close to the 2.37 GHz measured by PassMark.
© PassMark The Ryzen 5 4500U also includes six Radeon graphics compute units running at up to 1.5 GHz. PassMark lists the unidentified processor with integrated Radeon graphics and a G3D Mark score of 2,142. The available data therefore points to a Renoir APU rather than a new Ryzen 9 design.
The submitted system has 32GB of DDR4-2666 memory installed through two 16GB modules. It also uses a 512GB SOOONER drive, while the motherboard field is blank. These component identifiers suggest that the result may come from an unbranded mini-PC or a small OEM system, although PassMark does not provide the device name.
PassMark can verify the hardware, but not the official product name
PassMark does not rely only on a Windows registry name. It can detect the physical core count, thread count and cache configuration through CPUID. However, AMD documentation shows that the processor name string returned through CPUID is stored in six read-write registers. The system BIOS is responsible for programming these registers with the product name.
This means the six-core configuration is probably real, while the Ryzen 9 3950H Edition branding may have been added through custom firmware. The most likely explanation is a Ryzen 5 4500U or a related Renoir APU used in an OEM or refurbished system. A custom OEM identifier or engineering sample remains possible, but the exact match in core count, cache and base frequency makes a renamed Ryzen 5 4500U the stronger explanation.
