Retroid Pocket Nova price increases by $10 due to rising Qualcomm costs
© Retroid Retroid has confirmed a $10 price increase for the Pocket Nova with 8GB of memory and 128GB of storage. The adjustment takes effect on August 6 and raises the handheld’s price from $229 to $239. Retroid directly cited rising Qualcomm chipset and raw material costs.
This appears to be the first confirmed retail price increase tied directly to Qualcomm’s latest chipset cost adjustment. Other Snapdragon handhelds became more expensive earlier this year, but their manufacturers cited higher DRAM, storage and general component costs instead.
Qualcomm prices rise from September
Qualcomm reportedly informed customers that processor prices would rise by a double-digit percentage for products shipped after September 1.

Retroid has not explained why its price adjustment begins several weeks before Qualcomm’s reported September date. The announcement only covers the 8GB and 128GB Pocket Nova. Retroid has not confirmed a change for the 12GB version.
The Pocket Nova uses Qualcomm’s QCS8550 processor with eight Kryo CPU cores and an Adreno 740 GPU. It also features a 4.5-inch 1280×960 AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, LPDDR5X memory and UFS 3.1 storage.

Retroid previously increased the 8GB Pocket 6 from $229 to $244 due to higher RAM and storage costs. AYN also raised prices for several Thor and Odin 3 configurations earlier this year for similar reasons. Retroid’s Pocket Nova announcement is the first we have found that specifically names rising Qualcomm chipset costs as the reason for a finished device becoming more expensive.
