Chinese company puts AMD B650 chipset on a PCIe storage card for $90

B650 chipset powers LEKUO’s new 12-port PCIe expansion card

LEKUO has launched the PB65MX3 expansion card in China. The card uses an AMD B650 chipset and connects through a PCIe 4.0 x4 interface. It costs 599 yuan, equivalent to around $89 or €78 before regional taxes.

One PCIe slot adds 12 connectors

The card provides four M.2 NVMe slots and four SATA 6Gbps ports. It also includes one USB-C 20Gbps port, one USB-C 10Gbps port and two USB-A 10Gbps ports. LEKUO says the B650 chipset handles dynamic bandwidth distribution between connected devices.

The two M.2 slots on the front can each establish a PCIe 4.0 x4 link when the rear slots are not used. Populating the two rear M.2 slots changes all four connections to PCIe x2. The combined external bandwidth remains limited by the card’s PCIe 4.0 x4 connection to the host system.

This design does not require the motherboard to support PCIe lane bifurcation for four M.2 drives. The B650 chipset manages the downstream connections instead, allowing the card to operate as a standalone storage and USB controller.

Optional power for USB devices

The PB65MX3 measures 174 mm long and 69 mm tall, giving it a half-height form factor. Standard operation does not require an additional power cable. A 6-pin connector is available when powering USB devices with higher power requirements.

LEKUO lists support for Windows 10, Windows 11, macOS and Linux. The card is now available in China, but the company has not confirmed wider regional availability.
