Intel XeSS plugin 3.1 adds Unreal Engine 5.8 support

Unreal Engine 5.8 receives Intel XeSS 3 plugin support

Intel has released version 3.1.0 of its XeSS plugin for Unreal Engine. The update adds support for Unreal Engine 5.8 and upgrades the included XeSS SDK to version 3.0.2.

The plugin provides access to XeSS Super Resolution, XeSS Multi-Frame Generation and Xe Low Latency. Intel offers separate packages for Unreal Engine versions ranging from UE 4.26 to UE 5.8.

XeSS SDK 3.0.2 included

We previously covered the standalone XeSS SDK 3.0.2 release. That update moved XeLL to version 1.3.2.10 and fixed a memory leak affecting non-Intel GPUs.

The memory leak could occur when a game stopped calling the Present function while XeLL remained active and continued recording markers. Intel also fixed a crash related to NVIDIA Streamline proxy objects and corrected a value reported by the xellGetSleepMode function.

Plugin version 3.1.0 also fixes invalid log-level handling and changes how XeSS-SR configures the view family when no view requires temporal upscaling. Intel has updated the developer guide and refactored parts of the plugin code.

XeLL issue with Unreal Engine 5.8

Intel lists one known issue with the new Unreal Engine 5.8 package. XeLL does not work correctly with Unreal Engine 5.8.0 or 5.8.1. Developers must wait for an Unreal Engine update or apply the linked Epic Games source-code patch. XeSS Super Resolution and Multi-Frame Generation are still included in the UE 5.8 plugin package.
