HWiNFO Extends Per-Chip VRAM Monitoring To AMD Navi Cards After Unlocking The Same Trick On NVIDIA RTX

Per module temperature monitoring is now going to become common for both AMD and NVIDIA GPUs through third-party monitoring tools.

Not long ago, we had some modders unlock per-chip VRAM temperature monitoring on NVIDIA RTX cards with GDDR6 and GDDR6X VRAM . It was followed by a similar development for the RTX 50 series, which utilizes the latest GDDR7 memory. Popular hardware monitoring utilities quickly followed the same path and added the feature, and it appears that AMD GPUs will get a similar feature soon.

As spotted by @unikoshardware , one of the upcoming HWiNFO versions will add the feature for AMD GPUs. As per the release notes, the "per-chip VRAM" temperature monitoring will be unlocked for AMD Navi GPUs. HWiNFO didn't explicitly list the GPU generation/s, but it appears that all the Navi cards, including RX 5000, RX 6000, RX 7000, and RX 9000 graphics cards, will receive the new feature.

All these cards utilize the GDDR6 memory packages, and instead of showing a single temperature reading for the VRAM, the HWiNFO utility will be able to display individual memory package temperature readings, giving users a detailed insight into the thermals. This will be extremely helpful for the RDNA 4, aka RX 9000, family, as the VRAM on these cards runs quite hot.

That said, the upcoming HWiNFO has some more significant changes, including a per-chip VRAM temperature monitor for the NVIDIA GPUs with GDDR6X and GDDR7 memory. Moreover, the recently released Radeon RX 9050 has now been added to the HWiNFO database.
