Moonshot, the progenitor of the wildly popular Kimi K3 AI model, is apparently racing to bank its recent success with an IPO, one that might award it a valuation that is in excess of $50 billion.
As per the reports coming out of China, Moonshot is apparently aiming to file for an IPO as soon as this month in Hong Kong, potentially raising over $3 billion in new liquidity.
Do note that Moonshot recently raised over $3.5 billion in cash at a $35 billion valuation as a part of its Series F funding round. What's more, the company is aiming for a $50 billion valuation in its upcoming Series G funding round.
Given the fact that Moonshot has already raised over $3.5 billion in its last funding round, it's quite likely that it will aim for a more aggressive fund-raising exercise as part of its IPO rather than gunning for a measly $3 billion target amount, replete with an IPO valuation of $50 billion or more - above its Series G funding round valuation.
For the benefit of those who might not be aware, Moonshot's new Kimi K3 AI model is quite efficient to run on data center-scale hardware, courtesy of its dramatically reduced KV cache and built-in optimizations for per-token memory use - achieved by distributing its 896 experts across a large number of GPUs.
Of course, the company has been the subject of some controversy after it shot to fame in July, jumping right into the ongoing multi-dimensional struggle between China and the US, with Anthropic and some members of the Trump administration levelling accusations that Moonshot distilled the Kimi K3 model from Anthropic's Fable.
Apparently, as per the allegations leveled by a Trump administration official recently, Moonshot not only furtively owns some NVIDIA GB300 servers, but was also able to access additional GB300 GPUs via Thailand.
Meanwhile, Bloomberg reported recently that Moonshot has secured a compute cluster consisting of 20,000 H200 NVIDIA GPUs from Alibaba, significantly upping its training capacity.
