Microsoft plans to bring Xbox 360 games to PC from 2027
Microsoft is preparing to bring Xbox 360 games to PC, handhelds and its next-generation Xbox hardware. The program will reportedly begin rolling out between 2027 and 2028.
The details come from a Microsoft document sent to game developers and reviewed by The Verge. We already covered the leaked roadmap, but the new report confirms that the Xbox 360 catalog is part of Microsoft’s broader backward compatibility plan.
Publishers will control pricing and Game Pass access
What’s new in The Verge’s report is that Xbox 360 games will run on the next-generation Project Helix console, Xbox-branded PCs and handheld devices. Publishers will need to opt their games into the program. Microsoft will handle engineering, certification and support. Publishers will retain control over licensing, pricing and whether each game appears on Xbox Game Pass.

Microsoft is also planning a full launch of original Xbox games on PC in October 2026. The first phase announced in July included four games, with more titles expected once publishers approve their catalogs.
One more thing to read from this roadmap is that the next-gen Xbox is confirmed for 2027.
