Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave Lets You Rewind Time to Save Four Vanished Heroes When It Hits Switch 2 September 17

Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave just received a big Direct presentation from Nintendo , finally revealing a ton of details about the next entry in the tactical RPG franchise, originally announced in September 2025 . Launching exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2 on September 17 , the game combines classic grid-based battles with time travel, a tournament framework, dungeon exploration, class progression, and four distinct story routes.

Set in the prosperous Dagdan Empire , Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave begins with the Heroic Games , a series of matches held in tribute to the empire’s founding king, Dagda. The ultimate winner is promised a wish by the current ruler, Solei , drawing fighters from throughout the land into the capital city of Dagsion.

However, the story proper begins five years later, after the demon god Balor has returned and brought the empire to the brink of destruction. Four Heroes who played a major role in the games have disappeared, and the player character (a soul tasked by the progenitor god Sothis) must use the time-traveling power of the goddess Fortuna to alter their fates and avert the end of the world.

Players can travel back to the Heroic Games and choose one of four protagonists , with each selection determining the narrative path they will experience. Nintendo stressed that progress is tracked separately for each Hero, allowing players to tackle their stories in parallel and return through time to explore alternatives.

The four playable Heroes are:

  • Cai , a young man from Ribeira who enters the games alongside his childhood friends to win a wish and free his imprisoned father.
  • Dietrich , a battle-hungry fighter who washes ashore following an attack by a colossal monster, seeks new allies in the tournament.
  • Theodora , a leader from the kingdom of Saramis who fights to restore her goddess's honor and protect her homeland.
  • Leda , a musically gifted noblewoman who sacrifices her privileged life to pursue the murderer of her father.

The Direct presentation also outlined a substantial preparation loop between the tactical matches . Players will be able to freely explore Dagsion , spending their limited time on character development, equipment, recruiting, side quests, and gathering intelligence on future opponents.

The city includes an arena for skill training , a shopping arcade for buying and upgrading equipment, Temple Row for acquiring battle blessings, and certification exams for unlocking new classes. Inns let players rest, share meals, build supports, gain experience, and automatically collect materials, while prospective recruits can be won over through gifts and social interactions .

Beyond the capital, Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave players can look forward to exploring a world map where traveling consumes time . Towns offer local goods and information, skirmishes can strengthen the party, and each of the four Heroes has unique abilities when traveling outside Dagsion. As you'd expect, dungeons provide materials for weapon upgrades and other rewards, although encounters there use a different type of turn-based clash that allows allies to perform attack combos.

Matches retain the series' familiar tactical foundation : players position units on a grid, examine movement and attack ranges, take their actions, and then hand the initiative to the opponent. Positioning remains central, with terrain, weapon range, adjacent-unit buffs, and counterattack avoidance all playing an important role.

Nintendo confirmed five Beginner Classes , more than ten Specialty Classes , and a variety of Advanced Classes. Examples include gladiators, diviners, armored knights, wing soldiers, charioteers, cataphracts, guardians, and elephant riders. These classes can change a unit’s movement, available weapons, combat role, and abilities.

Weapons follow familiar Fire Emblem archetypes, like swords, spears, axes, bows, magic, and gauntlets, but Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave also features more unusual equipment , such as lightning-calling swords and firearm-like gauntlets . Combat Arts return as powerful techniques that trade weapon durability for greater power, range, or special effects.

The headline mechanic is Fortuna's Blessing , which lets the player rewind to any earlier point in a battle after making a move. It is effectively an expanded tactical safety net, allowing players to reassess a failed plan or prevent a favored unit from being routed. Each Hero also has access to Blaze Arts , powerful abilities that consume health to potentially turn the tide. Cai can unleash a wide burst of flame, Dietrich can teleport around the battlefield with his dark cloak, and Leda can use her vihuela to bolster allies or summon a powerful monster.
