The vendor not only increased the GPU prices significantly, but it also resulted in the cancellation of several existing orders.
The notice by CFD-BIZ confirms the report of NVIDIA raising the GPU prices. We have seen how drastic the price increase was for the GeForce RTX 50 series in China . We also heard reports that AMD raised the GPU prices for its RX 9000 series , which it delayed due to fear of losing GPU share to NVIDIA. However, reports confirm that both manufacturers have already implemented a new price hike, starting this month.
This was imminent due to rising DRAM prices and has caused a significant price hike in multiple regions already. Looks like the new inventory will cost users far more than the existing inventory, which appears to have been depleted already. The Japanese retailer CFD-BIZ has confirmed the new price hike, and it explicitly mentioned one of the biggest NVIDIA and AMD AIBs.
As per the notice, GIGABYTE has implemented a GPU price hike. The date of the notice is July 28, and the new price hike has already come into effect on August 1. The retailer has also notified users about the magnitude of the price hike, which can vary from 20% to a whopping 40% . This might be the biggest hike we have seen this year, since GPUs were selling for 20-30% higher than pre-RAMpocalypse prices, and it was a result of at least two price adjustments this year.
This has forced retailers to quickly adjust their prices as well. CFD has now informed users that they may not be able to honor some existing orders. While orders placed on August 1 or later will already be subject to the revised prices, some existing orders placed before that date may also be cancelled. However, this depends on the retailer's individual circumstances.
It looks like PC building will soon cease to exist since higher DDR5 prices forced the masses to delay the purchase, but now, with more expensive GPUs, a large section of the PC builder community won't be able to purchase newer components.
