RTX 5090 buyer loses order after ASUS raises price by 12.5%
This may be one of the most ridiculous RTX 5090 pricing stories yet. The GPU was supposed to cost $1,999, but due to AI-craze most custom models have already doubled that figure. One ASUS card has now reached the meme price of roughly $5,090 after tax, a level usually associated with launch-limited models such as the MSI Lightning .
For one Reddit user, that price is not a joke. He says an ASUS ROG Astral GeForce RTX 5090 BTF ordered through NVIDIA’s official marketplace was canceled after ASUS raised the price. NVIDIA customer support reportedly confirmed that ASUS refused to fulfill the order at the original amount, despite the purchase being placed before the new price appeared.
The customer placed the order at $4,429 before tax. The final charge was $4,607. NVIDIA later canceled the purchase and issued a full refund.
ASUS price rises by $553
The same card is now listed for $4,982 before tax. This represents a $553 increase, or around 12.5%. The customer estimates that placing the order again would cost roughly $5,100 after tax.

ASUS then canceled the order because it was unable to fulfill it at the previous price. User did not mention where the order took place, but in some countries this would already be illegal.
NVIDIA says it asked ASUS to honor the original purchase. The graphics card maker reportedly rejected the request. NVIDIA also said it could not restore the canceled order or create a replacement order using the older price. I can imagine if the user was ‘influential’ enough, the card would be free, but here we have someone paying $4600, and NVIDIA won’t even help you fulfill the order.
NVIDIA and ASUS direct customer between support teams
The buyer says ASUS initially denied responsibility and redirected the case to NVIDIA. NVIDIA maintained that ASUS handled fulfillment and made the cancellation decision.
This remains an individual customer report, and neither NVIDIA nor ASUS has issued a public statement about the case. However, the support email directly attributes the cancellation to ASUS and the price change supplied after the order was submitted.
