ASUS reportedly did not honor the purchase and cancelled the RTX 5090 order by a user who paid nearly $4600.

It's not just frustrating; it's also malpractice by one of the biggest GPU vendors. After a user places an order, the vendor must honor the purchase, but here we are, witnessing a straight-up refusal by NVIDIA's board partner, ASUS. A Redditor reportedly placed an order from NVIDIA's official marketplace, but got his order cancelled for no reason.

The user u/IndependentOk1031 shares his experience of how ASUS refused to fulfill the order he placed for the ASUS ROG Astral RTX 5090. The GPU was reportedly listed at $4,429 on the marketplace and cost him nearly $4,607 after taxes. However, ASUS cancelled it and raised the price to $4,982, which comes to around $5090 after taxes.

The user asked for clarification, and NVIDIA told him that ASUS cancelled the order because it was unable to fulfill the order at the "previous rate". Moreover, the company also requested that ASUS honor the original order, but ASUS refused. At the end of the day, the user was left with no choice, and he could only get the GPU at the newer price, which is nearly $500 more than the original price.

It's shocking to see that vendors aren't even fulfilling the order at a price that is already 2X the MSRP. The Founders Edition RTX 5090 was launched at $1,999, but custom editions have gone insanely expensive over the last year, particularly due to the RAMpocalypse, which has driven up GPU prices by a significant margin. The order cancellation of this user reminds us of the story we posted yesterday.

Apparently, GIGABYTE is also one of those vendors that raised GPU prices by up to 40% , resulting in the cancellation of some existing orders by the Japanese retailer. At this rate, there is no guarantee that users placing orders today will receive their GPUs despite paying a premium.
