With the Kingdom Come: Deliverance series, Warhorse Studios has established itself as the premier game development studio for immersive, historical role-playing games that make no compromises. Although the second entry in the series released last year on PC , PlayStation 5 , and Xbox Series X|S was definitely more welcoming than its predecessor (which was updated for current generation consoles this year), in no way did it compromise its roots, and the next entry in the series, which Warhorse refuses to call Kingdom Come: Deliverance 3 although it will belong to the series, will follow suit, despite the franchise now being a major commercial success .
Speaking in a recent interview with Shanghai Daily (via GamerSky ), Tobias Stolz-Zwilling , Public Relations Director of Warhorse Studios , provided some small new tidbits on the next entry in the series, and how the studio is handling its Middle-Earth RPG project . Speaking about the next entry in their immersive RPG series, Stolz-Zwilling reiterated that the game is targeting a release in the next fiscal year (2027-2028) , so between April 2027 and March 2028. The studio's main staff is working actively on the game, while another internal group is handling early research and development for the Middle-Earth RPG .
What's more interesting to learn is that the commercial success of the second entry in the series hasn't changed Warhorse Studios' design approach for the series. The studio "remains committed to its realistic historical RPG approach, refusing to easily alter the series' core elements to chase market trends, striving to maintain the game's unique medieval immersive experience."
Although this was expected, given Warhorse Studios' current track record, it's still very nice to learn how what makes the series such an engaging experience will not be toned down to chase the market trends that are homogenizing so many open-world games , regardless if they have RPG elements .
As Pearl Abyss has shown with Crimson Desert that letting players figure out central mechanics with no handholding for themselves and freestyle combat mechanics can still lead to a successful release , Kingdom Come: Deliverance 3 should have no trouble doing well while doubling down on its no-compromise immersive RPG formula .
