Today, Chinese developer S-GAME provided an update on its upcoming game Phantom Blade Zero , revealing that development is essentially complete and that pre-orders will kick off on August 11 at 7 PM Pacific Time (August 12 at 10 AM Beijing Time).
Players, thank you for waiting! Development on Phantom Blade Zero is now complete. Pre-orders will open on the following platforms: PlayStation Store, Steam, and the Epic Games Store. Get ready for an all-new trailer featuring new story content, characters, combat, and something unexpected.
This is the first console game made by S-GAME, following the previous titles released for PC and mobile. The series actually started all the way back in 2010 with Rainblood: Town of Death , which was made with the RPG Maker tool; it was followed by Rainblood 2: City of Flame in 2011 and Rainblood Chronicles: Mirage in 2013, a prequel.
The following year, S-GAME transitioned to mobile with Phantom Blade 1 , which reimagined the Rainblood universe for portable devices. There would be three more mobile games, the last being 2023's Phantom Blade: Executioners , but by then S-GAME had plans to return to PC and add consoles, too, with a proper triple-A budget.
This new game has been planned since 2017 and entered full-scale development in 2022. It's envisioned as a major 3D spiritual reboot of the original Rainblood PC games, revisiting the iconic premise: the protagonist, Soul , is framed for killing his clan's leader, saved from death by a healer, and given exactly 66 days to find the truth before his heart stops.
Phantom Blade Zero made its big debut in May 2023's PlayStation showcase , immediately attracting a lot of interest from action RPG fans . We were the first outlet to publish an exclusive interview with S-Game Founder and CEO Soulframe Liang , who revealed the games that inspired him (Ninja Gaiden, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, and Nioh) and confirmed that the epic bosses would be the highlight of the game.
Over the years, the hype surrounding the game only grew, especially after we got our hands on playable builds . The action impressed, but the game also has deep RPG features, with the developers confirming that the side quests can influence the main story .
Phantom Blade Zero will be released on October 29 for PC and PlayStation 5 , following a 50-day delay from the previous September 9 date. Stay tuned on Wccftech for more coverage in the coming weeks.
