AMD has enabled support for GFX1171 in Mesa 26.3, adding another GPU target under the RDNA 4m family.

AMD continues preparing its open-source Linux graphics stack for hardware that hasn't been officially announced yet. You might be aware of the recent changes, as AMD is preparing for the upcoming Zen 6-based Medusa Point chips. One of the latest developments comes in the Mesa 26.3 graphics driver, where developers have added support for GFX1171 , which is another GPU target under the RDNA 4m family .

GFX1171 isn't a retail product name, as it's an internally assigned GPU architecture ID such as GFX1100 and GFX1200. These identifiers are used throughout Linux drivers and development tools before the actual hardware is released. The GFX1171 is hardware that belongs to the RDNA 4m family, if you are aware of the recent graphics driver changes.

AMD first introduced GFX1170 earlier this year, followed by GFX1171 and GFX1172, and all three targets share the same RDNA 4m classification. As of now, there doesn't appear to be any functional differences between these GPU IDs in the driver code. This indicates that AMD is simply expanding the support for multiple hardware variants rather than introducing new graphics features.

Even though AMD has never revealed the actual hardware corresponding to these IDs, reports suggest that these are destined for the Zen 6-based Medusa Point APUs, which will succeed the current Strix Point family. Unlike the desktop Radeon graphics cards, APUs integrate both the CPU and GPU into a single chip, which makes them ideal for a wide range of products such as laptops and gaming handhelds.
