Chinese CXMT Memory Chips Hit 8800 MT/s On AM5, Signaling A Fast-Maturing Alternative To Established DDR5 Vendors

This time, it's the 2x 16 GB configuration that was pushed to nearly 9000 MT/s on an X870E motherboard.

CXMT DDR5 is maturing fast, and we have seen how quickly the DDR5 memory modules based on CXMT DDR5 chips reached over 8000 MT/s on multiple platforms. As vendors prepare for CXMT-based DDR5 memory modules for their platforms, we see previous records being broken. If you remember, a few weeks ago, Colorful was able to achieve a solid 8600 MT/s using its iGame Shadow II DDR5 memory kit .

This was achieved on the iGame X870E Vulcan W OC motherboard, using a 2x 16 GB memory configuration. This time, the company has managed to push the same memory kit to a staggering 8800 MT/s . This is a straight 200 MT/s jump in a few weeks, which isn't easy, particularly for the 2x 16 GB configuration. Apart from the 2x 16 GB kit, 8800 MT/s was achieved using the 2x 24 GB memory kit as well, and as per Colorful, both have been completely stable in the tests.

For context, 8800 MT/s is the highest DDR5 memory speed we have seen on a mainstream platform for memory modules that utilize the CXMT DDR5 memory chips. Also, it was possible on the Z890 platform using an Asgard 2x 24 GB DDR5 memory kit. It's amazing to witness AMD's AM5 platform coming pretty close to Intel's latest platform, at least with the CXMT memory.

With such developments, we might see CXMT-based DDR5 modules hitting 9000 MT/s pretty soon. ASUS and MSI have already broken the 8000 MT/s barrier, but it will take some more time for further optimizations to push CXMT memory beyond 9000 MT/s. However, this looks totally possible, making CXMT memory modules a great alternative in the mainstream market.
