ROCm Spur is described as an AI-native job scheduler that is using the Rust programming language, provides WireGuard mesh networking, GPU-first scheduling, and is drop-in compatible with Slurm's CLI / REST API / C FFI. Spur is also designed to provide modern state management with all state surviving restarts.
AMD's Anush Elangovan announced ROCm Spur overnight and its ability to handle multi-thousand GPU clusters. AMD will also be ramping up Spur on large CPU fleets too.
Those wanting to learn more about Spur for this new compute job scheduler for the ROCm ecosystem can find the Rust code under the Apache 2.0 license via ROCm/spur on GitHub .
