One RTX 4090 owner should consider himself lucky that he chose ZOTAC because never once did the U.S. RMA team refuse an accommodation to entertain a warranty claim. In fact, this person is now the proud owner of an RTX 5090 after the older flagship GPU was sent for RMA four times. Looking at this incident, other companies should take lessons on how to retain loyal customers, especially during the DRAM shortage .

NVIDIA’s previous-generation consumer-grade GPU king, the RTX 4090, is still a solid performer and can be used to run various LLMs thanks to its 24GB VRAM. Unfortunately, Redditor “Prudent_Echidna1254” wasn’t having much luck with his purchase since he claims that the graphics card was rife with various problems. From freezing to artifacts to PCIe errors, the RTX 4090 had it all.

It took four RMAs for ZOTAC to realize they weren’t getting anywhere with these warranty claims. Instead, they decided that the best course of action would be to send the customer a brand new RTX 5090, which you don’t see quite often. In fact, the Redditor was under the impression that ZOTAC would send him another faulty RTX 4090 unit due to the several horror stories he heard on Reddit.

“Over the last year I’ve been constantly sending back multiple RTX 4090’s for BSODs, freezing, artifacts, and PCIE errors. I had one month left on this 4090’s three year warranty and ended up sending it in… thought ZOTAC would do me dirty and send me a faulty card that would fail on me again after my warranty would expire after hearing so many horror stories on here. Well I hit the 30 day mark, shot an email to ZOTAC USA RMA for an update and they were able to get me out of the 4090 death loop I’ve been stuck with and sent me a 5090 with a 30-day warranty.”

The RTX 5090 surprisingly comes with a 30-day warranty, which is considerably less than the standard 3-year limited warranty period that ZOTAC offers, but given that they already RMA’d the RTX 4090 four times, they probably don’t want to deal with another one of these headaches. Now, the only problem the proud owner has to watch out for is the RTX 5090 drawing too much power, which can lead to melting 12VHPWR cables and connectors .

Other Reddit users have praised ZOTAC for its top-tier customer service but criticized the subpar quality of the company’s RTX 4090 GPUs, resulting in the graphics card being sent four times. Perhaps ZOTAC can win them over with this positive incident.
