Lenovo pulls Legion Go BIOS update after reports of bricked handhelds, provides no explanation
Lenovo has removed BIOS version N3CN42WW for the original Legion Go after users reported that the firmware update left some handhelds unable to boot. The company has not explained why the BIOS was withdrawn or publicly acknowledged the reported failures.
The Lenovo support page for Legion Go 8APU1 now lists N3CN40WW from January 2026 as the latest available BIOS. N3CN42WW, which was released in June, is no longer offered for download.
N3CN42WW disappears from Lenovo support
We reported earlier this week that Legion Go owners were reporting black screens and systems that would no longer boot after installing N3CN42WW. The reports concerned the original Legion Go 8APU1, including systems equipped with the Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor.
The N3CN42WW changelog was short. Lenovo said the update fixed an issue preventing the power button from correctly entering or exiting Modern Standby after an AMD Platform Initialization update. No other BIOS or embedded controller changes were listed.
One affected Reddit user claimed that his Legion Go became unusable immediately after installing Lenovo’s official update. Because the handheld was already out of warranty, Lenovo reportedly classified the repair as chargeable and provided a €237.16 repair quote . Users with active warranties have reported receiving motherboard replacements without charge.
Lenovo has not announced a repair program
Removing N3CN42WW prevents more users from downloading the firmware through Lenovo’s support page, but it does not address handhelds that have already stopped working. Community members have documented recovery attempts involving direct programming of the BIOS flash chip, but these procedures require additional hardware and carry a risk of further damage.
Lenovo has so far provided no public explanation for the removal. The company has also not disclosed what caused the failures, how many Legion Go systems may be affected, whether out-of-warranty repairs will be covered, or when a replacement BIOS will be released.
