RTX 4090 owner receives RTX 5090
A ZOTAC customer says the company replaced his GeForce RTX 4090 with a brand-new GeForce RTX 5090 SOLID after four RMAs over roughly one year. The customer had been dealing with BSODs, freezing, artifacts and PCIe errors across several RTX 4090 cards.
Redditor says the latest RTX 4090 was sent back with about one month remaining on its three-year warranty. After waiting around 30 days for an update, he contacted ZOTAC USA and was informed that management had approved an alternate replacement model. The company shipped an RTX 5090 instead.
Brand-new RTX 5090, but only 30-day warranty
ZOTAC initially told the customer that replacement cards can come from open-box, refurbished or new inventory. The company said all replacement units must pass its standard testing. The Redditor later updated the thread after receiving the card and confirmed that his RTX 5090 SOLID was brand new.

The RTX 5090 does not receive a new three-year warranty. The customer says ZOTAC provided 30 days of coverage. This is consistent with ZOTAC USA’s current warranty policy, which states that replacement products continue under the original product’s warranty period and that an RMA does not restart the warranty. ZOTAC also states that unavailable products may be replaced by a model offering equal or greater performance.
ZOTAC has upgraded RTX 4090 RMAs before
This is not the first reported RTX 4090-to-RTX 5090 replacement from ZOTAC. Another US customer reported last year that ZOTAC could not source a replacement RTX 4090 after an RMA and sent an RTX 5090 instead. That customer said ZOTAC had been waiting for RTX 4090 replacement stock for several weeks before approving the newer model.
These cases do not mean every RTX 4090 RMA will result in an RTX 5090. ZOTAC’s policy leaves the replacement decision to the company, with the requirement that an unavailable model can be replaced with hardware offering equal or greater performance. In this case, four RTX 4090 RMAs eventually resulted in a new RTX 5090 SOLID. One might argue that AMP AIRO, which was the original 4090 model was actually a higher-end variant per the ZOTAC lineup, but let’s be honest, that’s still one hell of an upgrade.
