Intel reportedly cancels 512-core Diamond Rapids, flagship Xeon 7 gets 256 P-cores
© Intel Diamond Rapids may no longer include the 512-core configuration previously expected. According to leaker Jaykihn, Intel’s top Diamond Rapids processor is now planned with 256 P-cores.
This is a change from information we reported in April. At the time, Diamond Rapids was said to launch with up to 256 P-cores, while a separate 512-core configuration using E-cores was expected one or two quarters later. Both were reportedly planned for Intel’s 16-channel server platform.
512-core Diamond Rapids reportedly canceled
The latest update claims the 512-core platform was canceled during the definition stage. The broader high-density Diamond Rapids plans were reportedly cut back in December 2025, leaving the P-core versions as the focus of the Xeon 7 generation.
Jaykihn now says the highest-end Diamond Rapids processor has 256 P-cores. The 256-core configuration itself is not new, since the leaker already mentioned this core count in April.

Intel would match Venice on core count
A 256-core Diamond Rapids processor would match AMD’s current top EPYC 9006 “Venice” CPU by physical core count. AMD’s EPYC 9996 has 256 Zen 6 cores and 512 threads, while the EPYC 9966 has 192 cores and 384 threads. AMD lists the EPYC 9996 with 1GB of L3 cache and a 600W default CPU power rating.
AMD has already launched the 6th Gen EPYC 9006 series, while Diamond Rapids is reportedly targeting 2027.
