Asobi brings PS5 cloud streaming to Steam Deck and Steam Machine, no PS5 required
Steam Deck and Steam Machine users can now test PlayStation cloud streaming through a third-party Steam app. Asobi also supports select purchased PS5 games without connecting to a console.
A third-party app called Asobi: Remote Play is now available through a Steam Playtest for Steam Deck, Steam Machine and other Linux systems. The software supports standard PS4 and PS5 Remote Play, but its more interesting feature is PlayStation Plus cloud streaming without requiring a PlayStation console.
Users need a PlayStation Network account and an active PlayStation Plus Premium subscription for cloud gaming. This includes supported games from the PlayStation Plus catalog and eligible digital PS5 games already owned by the user. It does not mean that every purchased PS5 game can be streamed. Game availability still depends on Sony’s cloud catalog, account and region.
PlayStation cloud streaming comes to Steam Deck and Steam Machine through Asobi
Sony introduced cloud streaming for PlayStation Portal in 2025. This allowed Premium subscribers to play selected PS5 games directly from Sony’s servers rather than streaming them from a local PS5. Asobi is effectively bringing this capability to general-purpose Linux devices, including Valve’s handheld and Steam Machine.

The basic Asobi configuration supports up to 1080p at 30 FPS in SDR with automatic bitrate adjustment. Its premium feature set adds 1080p at 60 FPS, HDR, manual bitrate control, low-latency modes, controller haptics and upscaling to 4K. The app also lists output at up to 120 FPS on supported displays, although this does not mean PlayStation cloud games are rendered at 120 FPS.

© Asobi All premium features are unlocked during the current Steam Playtest. The Steam page lists the software as Free to Play and shows a separate Asobi Premium package, but pricing has not been announced. The developer also says a Windows version is planned, while the current Playtest announcement focuses on Steam Deck, Steam Machine and Linux.
Asobi is developed by Inside Internet and is not affiliated with Sony Interactive Entertainment. The Steam listing explicitly includes this disclaimer. The app is also still being tested, with some users already reporting cloud allocation problems for games that should otherwise be available through their Premium accounts.
