Heroic Games Launcher developer is working on Xbox PC and Game Pass support for Linux
Xbox PC games and PC Game Pass may eventually become playable locally on Linux. Heroic Games Launcher developers other contributors are working on Xodus, an open-source project focused on bringing Microsoft’s GDK-based Xbox PC games outside Windows.
Xodus already handles Microsoft/Xbox authentication, game package downloads and licenses. The project can also download and decrypt MSIXVC packages. In a Reddit comment this weekend, developer confirmed that authorization and game downloads are working, with development now focused on the game SDK required to actually run the games.
© Reddit This means PC Game Pass does not work on Linux through Xodus yet. The remaining work involves recreating enough of the Xbox Gaming Runtime and related services for games to function through Wine. Xodus already maintains its own Wine fork with patches for the project, while work is also underway on Xbox runtime components.

The target is primarily newer Xbox PC games using Microsoft’s GDK and MSIXVC package format. Older UWP releases are not the focus, and compatibility will still depend on individual games and Wine, DXVK or VKD3D-Proton support. A Heroic developer previously confirmed that planned Microsoft Store work would focus on the Xbox side, including owned Xbox Play Anywhere titles and Game Pass.
OG Xbox/360 backward compatibility is also on the table
Microsoft recently brought the first four original Xbox games to PC through its new compatibility layer, while a leaked roadmap suggests a broader rollout later this year and Xbox 360 games starting in 2027. If those releases are distributed through the same Xbox PC infrastructure, they may eventually become another target for Xodus, although the developers have not confirmed support yet.
