Sony and Arc System Works Patched MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls, After PC Players Revolted Over Broken 60 FPS Performance

MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls launched last week on PC and PlayStation 5 , but the experience differed greatly between PC and console. While the PlayStation 5 version plays flawlessly, the PC version of the latest fighting game developed by Arc System Works leaves a lot to be desired: most systems cannot run the game at a consistent 60 FPS, resulting in numerous issues during both offline and online play. Thankfully, the Japanese developer responded quickly to criticism, releasing the first PC patch today to address these performance issues .

Following a brief maintenance period, which has now ended, Arc System Works rolled out the first patch for the game, as initially confirmed on the game's official Discord server . This patch introduces:

  • Reduced CPU load to help improve overall responsiveness and reduce lag-related issues ,
  • Fixes a bug that could cause sudden performance drops during gameplay, and
  • Improves backend crash reporting so the developers can track down issues and improve stability faster.

As the new patch launched before MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls ' latest maintenance was complete, players were able to try out these improvements in the game's offline modes , and the response was generally positive, with many noting significant improvements. Since I did not experience any significant performance drop during my time with the game, I am noticing no real improvement on my end, although my system ( i7-13700F , RTX 4080 , 32 GB RAM ) is powerful enough to brute-force through any performance hiccup .

However, in online play, I often experienced matches against other PC players that were completely unplayable due to significant slowdowns and 5 or more rollback frames. Hopefully, this patch will have addressed this issue for good, as I am enjoying MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls quite a bit, finding it one of the best fighting games of the generation, masterfully combining accessibility with a depth that only a few modern fighting games could rival.
