LittleBigPlanet betas and early retail versions are now playable on RPCS3
The RPCS3 team has expanded LittleBigPlanet compatibility to much older versions of the game. Betas, demos and retail builds through version 1.20 can now be played through the PlayStation 3 emulator.
Until now, users generally needed LittleBigPlanet v1.21 or newer. Earlier versions used an older version of the game engine and would become stuck on the first loading screen when launched through RPCS3.
Older builds no longer require v1.21 update
According to RPCS3, contributor GalCiv fixed multiple bugs in the emulator’s network code that were responsible for the problem. The fixes allow those older engine versions to progress beyond the loading screen and reach gameplay.

This is mainly useful for preservation and testing. LittleBigPlanet received numerous updates during its lifetime, while separate demos and beta releases also exist with their own official product codes. RPCS3 confirmed that beta releases can be included in its compatibility database when Sony assigned them a dedicated product code.
RPCS3 already lists multiple LittleBigPlanet releases in its compatibility database, including the standard game, Game of the Year Edition and separate demo versions. LittleBigPlanet 2 also has entries for its beta and Move Pack Demo. The latest change expands what can actually be tested from the earlier history of the original game.
The fix does not restore Sony’s original LittleBigPlanet servers. Those services are no longer available, although community-run alternatives exist for supported versions. The RPCS3 update specifically addresses emulation of the older game builds themselves.
