Aliens: Fireteam Elite is now permanently unplayable on Nintendo Switch
Aliens: Fireteam Elite is no longer playable on Nintendo Switch after its cloud servers were permanently shut down on August 5. Unlike versions released on other platforms, the Switch edition depended entirely on remote servers and had no native offline mode.
Cold Iron Studios released the game on Switch in April 2023 as a cloud version. The standard edition cost $29.99, while the $59.99 Ultimate Edition included the base game and additional DLC. Players were effectively purchasing access to a streamed version rather than software that could run locally on the console.
Switch version had no offline fallback
The game was removed from the Nintendo eShop earlier this year. Existing owners were warned that the cloud servers would shut down on August 5. With those servers now offline, previously purchased copies can no longer be launched or played.

On PCs and other consoles the game can still be played offline even if the game is eventually removed from digital stores. The Switch release had no equivalent fallback because all gameplay depended on the cloud service remaining operational.
Streaming services can reduce local hardware requirements, but access depends on continued server operation. Once the infrastructure is retired, there may be no executable game available to preserve or use offline.
