Following the smashing success of Hogwarts Legacy , very few doubted that the series would continue in some form. Although job ads and rumors suggested the game developed by Avalanche for PC , PlayStation 5 , Xbox Series X|S , and Nintendo Switch consoles would indeed receive a sequel, Warner Bros. never acknowledged the game until today, when its existence has been made official in a new letter to shareholders.

"Games remains an important growth lever as we work toward our long-term Studios segment goals," the letter reads. "During the second quarter, we released LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight – the highest rated LEGO game ever – and Game of Thrones: Dragonfire , our second mobile game from the Game of Thrones universe. These releases marked the first launches under our refocused strategy centered around four key $1 billion+ franchises with disciplined investment behind fewer, higher conviction titles."

"We expect Games to more meaningfully contribute to segment profitability going forward as our pipeline expands, including the second installment of Hogwarts Legacy ," the letter continued, confirming the game in an official capacity for the first time.

As the lengthy letter doesn't add anything else about Hogwarts Legacy 2 , we have no idea when it will launch, and how it will improve on what its predecessor did. While it is undeniably a very solid game, the original Hogwarts Legacy embraced the Ubisoft open-world formula without adding anything significant, so I would love for the sequel to be a little bolder and use its rich setting to deliver an experience that will set itself apart from most open-world games. And have some serious consequences for anyone using the Unforgivable Curses: to this day, I am still baffled I could use Avada Kedavra freely, with no NPC batting an eye!
