JSAUX continues development of externally powered Steam Machine display faceplate
© JSAUX JSAUX has shown a new prototype of its Color Dot Matrix faceplate for Valve’s Steam Machine. The latest revision changes the external wiring and gives the front display a cleaner connection to the system. JSAUX says it has been working on the cable setup since showing the earlier prototype.
The Color Dot Matrix version needs external power because its display can update continuously. Unlike the E-Ink version, it connects to a rear port on the Steam Machine through a separate cable. The latest prototype reduces how much of that cable is visible around the side of the system.
JSAUX has also demonstrated several uses for the display through its Discord server. These include system information such as temperatures and utilization, clocks, pixel art and animations. One example also displays game information together with session and total playtime.

Color E-Ink appears to be out of the current lineup
We covered the project in July, when JSAUX presented three concepts: Mono E-Ink, Color E-Ink and Color Dot Matrix. At the time, the company said the prototypes were still under development and targeted a Q4 release.
