Man dies in Markham workplace incident, Ministry of Labour investigating

The Ministry of Labour has been called in to investigate after a man died in a workplace incident in Markham.

York police would not provide any details about how the man was injured, but say they were called to reports of an injured person in the area of McCowan Road and Highway 7 on Thursday.

The man suffered significant injuries and was later pronounced dead, the Ministry of Labour said. They were not able to provide any further details.

Alectra Utilities say the outage was caused by a vehicle collision with equipment around 11:50 a.m., but York police say the outage was not caused by a collision.

The incident caused a large power outage in the area, with more than 6,000 customers affected at the height of the outage. Power was eventually restored just after 4 p.m.
