Epic Games Store will officially support Linux, Epic confirms
© HYPEX (Image cleaned up) Epic Games is working on official Linux support for the Epic Games Store. An Epic staff member confirmed that Linux support is coming “soon,” although it will not be part of the next preview release.
The confirmation came during an AMA on the official Epic Games Store community Discord. According to Epic staff member @onepercentnachos, supporting Linux requires more work than simply producing a native Linux build, suggesting that Epic is preparing broader platform integration rather than only porting the launcher.
Epic Games Store currently relies on third-party Linux launchers
Linux and Steam Deck users currently access Epic Games Store libraries through community-developed software such as Heroic Games Launcher. These tools can install Windows versions of Epic games and run them through compatibility layers such as Wine and Proton.
© Epic Games Discord An official Epic Games Store client would give Linux users direct access to Epic’s storefront, library management and weekly free-game program without relying on third-party launchers. Epic has not confirmed whether the Linux version will target SteamOS specifically or which distributions will be supported.
The announcement also does not mean that games such as Fortnite will automatically become playable on Steam Deck. Individual titles may still require Linux-compatible anti-cheat support, something Epic has not confirmed as part of this announcement.
Worth adding that Epic recently announced a storefront redesign, but Linux support was not mentioned .
