Intel Razor Lake-AX reportedly won’t support unlocked CPU overclocking
© VideoCardz Intel’s rumored Razor Lake-AX processor will reportedly not be unlocked for overclocking. The latest information comes from leaker Jaykihn, who also shared new details about the CPU architecture used by the large APU.
According to the leaker, Razor Lake-AX uses Nova Lake CPU architecture. When asked whether the processor uses Coyote Cove P-Cores and Arctic Wolf E-Cores or the newer Griffin Cove and Golden Eagle combination, Jaykihn responded with “CYC ARW,” referring to Coyote Cove and Arctic Wolf.
AX keeps Nova Lake CPU cores
This means Razor Lake-AX may retain more Nova Lake technology than its name suggests. Jaykihn separately confirmed that Razor Lake-S uses a different P-Core and E-Core configuration from Razor Lake-AX. Jaykihn confirmed that Razor Lake-AX uses Coyote Cove and Arctic Wolf CPU cores . Earlier the chip was tied to Xe3p graphics.
© X Razor Lake-AX has previously been linked to a large BGA4326 package with on-package memory. Earlier leaks also pointed to 16 or 32 Xe3p graphics cores, making AX Intel’s rumored large APU platform rather than a conventional socketed desktop processor.
Core 400 or Core 500?
One detail remains unclear. Nova Lake processors are expected under the Core Ultra 400 series, but Intel has not announced the branding for Razor Lake-AX. We asked Jaykihn whether AX belongs to the Core 400 or 500 series, but there is no answer yet. Perhaps Intel will use the same branding as it does for handheld chips, something akin to the Arc G4 Desktop series?
Intel has not officially announced Razor Lake-AX.
