Crucial Agrees To Replace User’s Defective DDR5 RAM, But Then Refuses To Send Back Even The Defective Product

Crucial just lied to the customer by first agreeing to replace the component, but then refused to send the returned product back.

Since the time when Micron exited the consumer business , customers have been having a hard time getting product replacements. It was Samsung recently that tried to evade the SSD replacement with Louis Rossman, but later agreed to refund the amount that matched the current pricing for the hardware. However, Micron doesn't appear to be interested in honoring the warranty claims.

The company is straight up ducking the RMA requests and is making unpleasant offers to its customers. Crucial, a subsidiary of Micron, is now engaging in what appears to be illegal practices. The Redditor u/Forsaken_Bet3568 has opened a thread in r/pcmasterrace, revealing the company's true face when it comes to RMA. As per the user, the company straight up lied to the user about the product replacement.

When the user filed an RMA request, Crucial happily agreed to the product replacement, which in this case was a DDR5 SO-DIMM kit. However, the company later not only denied the kit replacement but also refused to return the original broken kit to the customer. As per Crucial's statement, the company apparently doesn't have replacement inventory available and therefore could only offer a refund.

Hello [name],

Thank you for contacting Crucial Support.

We understand your request to have the defective item returned so that you may pursue other options. However, once a product has been received and processed as part of our warranty procedure, we are unfortunately unable to ship the returned item back to the customer.

Additionally, due to the wind-down of the Crucial consumer business, we are not in a position to facilitate any outbound shipments of returned warranty products.

We would also like to clarify that we are unable to reimburse the €14 shipping cost you incurred when returning the product. Return shipping expenses are the responsibility of the customer and are not covered under our warranty policy.

At this time, as we no longer have replacement inventory available, the only resolution we can offer is a refund based on the original purchase value shown on your proof of purchase. Please confirm if you would like to proceed with the same.

You may receive a survey by email after our interaction. If you have a moment, I would appreciate if you could provide feedback about your experience with me.

If you have further questions, I welcome your reply. You can also visit our Contact page for other ways to reach us.

Regards,

However, the prices are already 5X higher than what they were in pre-RAMpocalypse era, allowing the company to continue selling the memory sticks for much higher profits while the user gets a fraction of it in the refund. The shocking part in this matter is how Crucial is evading the issue by not even sending back the defective product while refusing the replacement simultaneously.

The frustrated user is now recommending not to file the RMA claim with Crucial, and instead advises to file it with the seller instead.
