Ukrainian developer GSC Game World is preparing to release Update 2.0 for STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl , delivering a substantial collection of free improvements for all players.
The update launches on August 20 , the same day as Cost of Hope , the game's first major expansion. Update 2.0 focuses on visual improvements, more dynamic Zone activity, expanded customization, and new weapons.
When it comes to graphics, players can expect an enhanced environmental presentation across the Zone , thanks to more natural lighting, more realistic shadows, and improved reflections throughout the world, including inside buildings and in underground areas. GSC has also reportedly reworked landscapes and foliage to make the Zone feel more organic and immersive.
The patch further improves the A-Life AI system , creating more believable activity and encounters throughout the region. Points of interest such as campfires, bus stops, and other locations can now become more contested as stalkers and mutants cross paths.
Several long-standing underlying issues have also been addressed. These include enemies shooting or throwing objects through walls, as well as unexpected overpopulation in certain parts of the Zone. Moreover, Update 2.0 introduces Custom Rules to STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl, allowing players to adjust individual difficulty settings to create a more forgiving survival experience or a much harsher challenge. Players looking for a more traditional hardcore experience can also select Master difficulty or enable the optional Expedition mode , both of which were introduced in previous updates.
Stalkers will also gain access to three different types of binoculars . Each model uses different technology and offers distinct functionality, allowing players to scout the Zone, identify targets, and plan their next move. The binoculars can be found throughout the Zone or purchased from select traders.
Update 2.0 expands the arsenal with four new firearms:
- Arev — assault rifle.
- GP3A — designated marksman rifle.
- SKP — designated marksman rifle.
- Fora-230 — submachine gun.
A unique variant of one of the new weapons can also be discovered somewhere in the Zone. The update adds new optics as well , including a 3x scope for Western-bloc weapons and a new red-dot sight for Eastern-bloc firearms. Offset aiming has been expanded beyond night-vision use, giving players more freedom when customizing their loadouts.
Fog will now affect gameplay rather than functioning solely as a visual weather effect. Both stalkers and enemies will have reduced visibility and hearing during foggy conditions. The Light Rainy weather scenario has also received a visual overhaul to better match the update's improved environmental presentation.
Other additions and improvements include:
- A new Statistics page in the PDA that allows players to track their activity across the Zone.
- Different appearances for Bloodsuckers and Fleshes depending on their habitat.
- Additional technical fixes and refinements based on community feedback.
GSC described Update 2.0 as a collection of years' worth of player feedback , technical improvements, and new ideas intended to make the Zone more dynamic and immersive.
Of course, the new patch is best paired with the Cost of Hope DLC. The upcoming expansion explores the long-running conflict between the Duty and Freedom factions , taking players to new locations including the Iron Forest , the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant , and the Spatial Bubble . GSC says players can expect numerous hours of new content while revisiting the Zone's distinctive atmosphere.
Cost of Hope will be included with the Ultimate Edition of STALKER 2 and will also be available as a standalone purchase for $29.99 / €29.99 . To celebrate the launch, GSC has opened a dedicated website where players can vote for their preferred faction. After completing a short quiz, players can discover whether they belong with Duty or Freedom, cast their vote, and compete for a selection of limited and exclusive S.T.A.L.K.E.R.-themed prizes. You can take part through the official Duty or Freedom website .
