Leak suggest ASUS ROG Maximus Z690 motherboards will only support DDR5 memory

ASUS Z690 motherboards listed with DDR5 and DDR4 variants

The upcoming ASUS Z690 motherboards featuring LGA1700 socket for Intel Alder Lake CPUs have been listed by the Eurasian Economic Commission regulatory office.

According to the filing, ASUS Z690 ROG Maximus would be exclusively supporting DDR5 memory only. We managed to confirm this with our sources at ASUS. We have also learned that ASUS might be dropping roman numerals for its product ROG Maximus (and possibly Crosshair) motherboards starting from now, which should be more user-friendly.

The ROG Maximus Z690 Extreme, expected to be the flagship motherboard for the series, along with FORMULA, Hero, and Apex (which is not listed here) will all use DDR5 memory exclusively. There would apparently be no DDR4 ROG Maximus motherboards for these series.

The same trends continue for the ROG STRIX series, except those would be exclusively using DDR4 memory, at least at launch with the PRIME series offering variants with both DDR4 and DDR5 memory. The PRIME series are considered workstation motherboards by ASUS, which is why the company might want to have more flexibility with their offering in this segment.

The leak does not reveal anything beyond product names or memory support. We are yet to see those motherboards listed by retailers. According to the latest information, they should launch in mid-November.
