GEEKOM confirms malware was hosted on its website

GEEKOM has issued an official statement following our report about a malware-flagged driver distributed through the company’s support website. The company has now confirmed that the affected file was hosted on an outdated GEEKOM Support page and that the legacy resource had not been removed when the newer support system replaced it.
According to GEEKOM, the old page was no longer linked through the normal navigation on its website, but it remained accessible and could still be found through search engines. This does not change the fact that the affected driver was hosted on GEEKOM’s own support infrastructure and served from its website, which is how both the Reddit user and VideoCardz downloaded it.
GEEKOM says it reviewed the files available through its current Support page and found no similar problems. The company also clarified that the affected driver was not included with the Windows installation shipped on its mini PCs. GEEKOM is now removing the affected legacy files and pages and says it is tightening its review and resource-management procedures.
The company has not confirmed how the malware ended up on their servers in the first place.
GEEKOM asks VideoCardz to remove the article
Interestingly, GEEKOM also asked VideoCardz to consider removing the original article. Given the company’s own confirmation that the malware file was present on its support website, we do not believe removing the report would be fair. In reality, we rarely do it, unless the entire story is based on wrong information, which is clearly not the case here.
For users who downloaded the affected LAN package, GEEKOM recommends deleting the installer, running a full security scan and reinstalling the network driver through Windows Update, Realtek or the company’s current Support page. GEEKOM also lists a clean Windows installation using Microsoft’s official image as an additional precaution. The company’s full statement is reproduced below.
GEEKOM Official Statement Regarding a Driver File Flagged on Legacy Pages
We have seen the recent reports that a driver file associated with GEEKOM was flagged by several security scanners, and we take these concerns seriously.
We want to sincerely apologize. This issue traces back to an outdated resource that we failed to remove from our older pages in time, and we are sorry for the concern and inconvenience it has caused our users and the wider community.
After a thorough internal review, we can confirm that the matter is confined to legacy pages. Our current driver pages show no such anomalies, and this does not affect GEEKOM hardware or the operating system pre-installed on our devices.
We are now removing the affected legacy files and tightening our resource-management and review processes to prevent any recurrence.
If you have already downloaded or run this file
If you previously downloaded the affected LAN driver package, we recommend the following steps as a precaution:
Do not run the flagged installer, and delete any copy you may have saved locally.
Run a full scan with Windows Security (Microsoft Defender) or another trusted anti-malware tool.
Reinstall your network driver from a trusted source — via Windows Update or the official Realtek website — or use the updated package from the official GEEKOM site.
For complete peace of mind, you may perform a clean installation of Windows using Microsoft’s official image.
If you need any assistance, please contact GEEKOM support at [email protected] and our team will help you directly. Please note that, because this concerns a downloadable driver file rather than the system pre-installed on your device, simply owning a GEEKOM mini PC does not mean your system is affected.
Downloading drivers safely
To stay safe, please download drivers via the SUPPORT button in the navigation bar on the official GEEKOM website, rather than through older links that may still appear in Google search results.
We are grateful to the community for its vigilance and understanding. Protecting the security and trust of every GEEKOM user remains our highest priority.
