ASUS GPU Tweak III can now shut down the PC when persistent high current is detected

ASUS has released GPU Tweak III version 2.1.8.0, adding a new safety option for graphics cards that support Power Detector+. The software can now automatically shut down the system when persistently high current is detected through the GPU power connector.
This follows the GPU Tweak III 2.1.7.2 update we covered earlier this month. That release improved the Power Detector+ interface by allowing users to permanently display either the connector status or real-time amperage for individual pins. The new version goes beyond monitoring and warnings by allowing GPU Tweak III to shut the system down.

Power Detector+ monitors current across the six power-carrying pins of the 12VHPWR or 12V-2×6 connector on supported ASUS graphics cards. ASUS documentation states that a warning is triggered when at least one pin reports 0 A or exceeds 9.2 A. The company previously advised users to shut down the PC immediately if such a warning appeared.

New: Added an auto-shutdown option for models that support Power Detector+, which triggers when persistently high current is detected.
ASUS does not specify in the new changelog how long the current must remain elevated before the automatic shutdown is triggered. It also describes this as an option, so users should not assume the protection is enabled automatically after installing GPU Tweak III 2.1.8.0. Power Detector+ is supported by selected ROG Astral and ROG Matrix graphics cards with per-pin current monitoring.
The update arrives only ten days after version 2.1.7.2 and makes Power Detector+ more than a monitoring and warning feature. For supported cards, GPU Tweak III can now take action when high current persists instead of relying on the user to notice the warning and shut the system down manually.
