Minisforum has launched the N5 MAX AI NAS, its highest-end N5 model based on AMD’s Strix Halo platform. The system is equipped with the Ryzen AI Max+ 395 processor, Radeon 8060S integrated graphics and up to 128GB of LPDDR5X unified memory.

The Ryzen AI Max+ 395 features 16 Zen 5 cores and 32 threads with boost clocks of up to 5.1 GHz. Minisforum configures the processor for a 70W to 90W TDP range. The chip also includes Radeon 8060S graphics and an NPU, with Minisforum claiming up to 126 TOPS of combined local AI performance.

Strix Halo gets 128GB LPDDR5X-8000 memory

Unlike the N5 Pro, which uses replaceable DDR5 SO-DIMMs, the N5 MAX uses onboard LPDDR5X unified memory connected through a 256-bit interface. Minisforum lists LPDDR5X-8000 as the default speed, with 8533 MT/s available through an OC mode. The company is promoting the 128GB configuration for running large local AI models, including 120B-class models.

MINISFORUM N5 MAX is now available with 128GB LPDDR5x unified memory.

Powered by the AMD Ryzen™ AI Max+ 395, it delivers the processing power and memory headroom to run 120B-class open models locally.

Despite the Strix Halo hardware, this is still a NAS. The N5 MAX supports five HDD bays and five M.2 NVMe SSDs, with Minisforum advertising up to 200TB of total storage capacity. It supports RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 5/RAIDZ1 and RAID 6/RAIDZ2 configurations. Connectivity includes dual 10GbE, two USB4 v2 ports supporting up to 80 Gbps and HDMI 2.1 FRL.

$3,599 for the 128GB configuration

The NAS uses an integrated 250W power supply and comes with MinisCloud OS preinstalled. Minisforum also supports Docker applications and promotes the system for running local AI services alongside conventional NAS workloads.

The company currently lists the 128GB model at $3,599, down from a stated regular price of $4,499, with shipping estimated for mid-September. The 64GB configuration costs $2,599, so a double memory configuration costs $1000.
