2027 Will Be The Year Of The Witcher 3, As Modders Unveil Revenge of Ofir Before Songs of The Past

Having been originally released in 2015 on PC , PlayStation 4 , and Xbox One ahead of its next-gen release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S , no one would have expected CD Projekt Red to bring The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt back into the spotlight with the Songs of the Past expansion . However, 2027 will unexpectedly be even more the year of the game thanks to a very promising unofficial expansion called Revenge of Ofir .

"Revenge of Ofir is an unofficial expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt developed by enthusiasts from different countries," said developer W3streams in a new video providing a first look at the project. The expansion will bring Geralt of Rivia to the land of Ofir, which was mentioned in the novels by Andrzej Sapkowski and teased in the Hearts of Stone expansion, following the end of Blood and Wine . "Geralt has retired and started making wine in Corvo Bianco, but he gets involved in yet another story, this time far away in Ofir, where things are far from peaceful after the heir to the throne died."

Using the official REDkit modding tools, the developers of The Witcher 3: Revenge of Ofir are creating a brand new region filled with new items to obtain, new enemies to defeat, side quests, monster hunting, non-linear story choices, and even a new Gwent card for those who believe a game of cards is more important than solving whichever crisis Geralt finds himself involved in. "You'll get to immerse yourself in an aspect of Ofir you've never experienced before," the developer said.

Going by what is shown and said in the video, The Witcher 3: Revenge of Ofir seems to have everything that made the game's official expansions great, but the developers have gone the extra mile to make it feel as an integral part of the experience as much as possible. "Revenge of Ofir will have full Polish dubbing, and the official Polish voice of Geralt (Jacek Rozenek) in the games will voice the Witcher again," said W3streams . Needless to say, hearing Doug Cockle voicing Geralt for this fan-made expansion would be incredible, but even so, this is great news, as it shows how the expansion will not make use of AI to replicate the base game's feel.

As for when The Witcher 3: Revenge of Ofir will launch, the developers couldn't commit to anything more than a generic 2027 release window, although a preview build will be sent to select content creators to showcase the fan-made expansion ahead of its launch. Will it release before Songs of the Past , which will be fully unveiled next week during Gamescom Opening Night Live ? Who knows, but at this point, one thing seems to be certain: 2027 will indeed be the year of The Witcher 3 once again.
