Crucial Offers User $259 In Refund For A RAM Kit That Costs $1,800 Right Now While One 64 GB Module Was Still Working Properly

Another case surfaced on Reddit, which reveals Crucial's true face when it comes to the product warranty.

This case is pretty similar to what we posted a few days ago , except that this case involves a much bigger RAM kit. Similar to what we heard from that user, the user u/levoniust also blamed Crucial for lying after having promised a replacement. As per the Reddit post, Crucial first agreed to replace the kit with a new one, but then later backtracked.

The user says he had a Crucial Pro 128 GB (2x 64 GB) DDR5 RAM kit, which died during its warranty period. After applying for the RMA, Crucial promised that his new kit would arrive within 14 to 21 business days. After shipping the RAM to Crucial, the company confirmed the replacement order, but a few weeks later, Crucial reportedly replied that they could not replace the product because they had stopped making RAM.

Instead of a replacement, Crucial offered a refund of the original amount of $259.99. Anyone wondering what that particular RAM kit costs right now would be absolutely infuriated to see it listed at around $1,800 at major retailers. So, the $259 refund amount is a fraction of the current cost for that RAM kit.

The company reportedly sent the user another email later, stating that one of the RAM modules was still functional. However, the company states that the memory kit may have been disposed of, but in case they can find it, they will return one RAM module. Considering the refund amount they are agreeing to, I think getting one stick of 64 GB DDR5 RAM back is a much better option since this stick easily costs $800-$900 in the current market.

We understand your request to have the original memory kit returned to you, particularly since one of the modules was still functional when it was sent back.

At this time, I have reached out to our warehouse/RMA team to check whether your original memory kit is still available. If the product has not yet been processed or disposed of and is still available, we will let you know as soon as we receive an update from the team.

Please note that if the original kit is still available and you would like it returned to you, you will be required to provide a prepaid return shipping label for us to arrange the shipment back to your address.

Once we hear back from the team regarding the availability of the product, we will update you accordingly.

That said, it's such a frustrating moment for the customers, especially when Crucial is straight up lying to their faces. Seeing multiple such reports, I think it's a lose-lose situation for the customers who cannot get their original product back from Crucial and cannot buy a newer one due to sky-high prices.
