Thermal Grizzly delids the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2

Thermal Grizzly has added AMD’s Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 to its lineup of professionally delidded processors. The company is currently listing the CPU for $1,402.83 including VAT. Unlike a user-delidded processor, this version comes with a warranty provided by Thermal Grizzly.
AMD launched the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 in April at a $899 suggested price. The 16-core Zen 5 processor uses 3D V-Cache on both CCDs and offers 208MB of total cache. It has a 5.6 GHz maximum boost clock and a 200W default TDP.

This normally voids AMD’s warranty, which is why Thermal Grizzly is providing its own coverage for these processors. Each CPU is cleaned and function-tested after delidding. Thermal Grizzly also includes a USB drive containing a screenshot of the temperature test and a microscope image of the processor.

According to the company, thermal interface materials cannot properly compensate for the resulting height difference between the chiplets and the original heatspreader. Reinstalling it can damage the processor and also void Thermal Grizzly’s warranty.
The delidded Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 is also not compatible with AMD Direct Die Frames. Thermal Grizzly instead recommends its own direct-die cooling products or replacement heatspreader, with Conductonaut liquid metal suggested for direct contact with the dies. The company also warns that exposed SMD components should be insulated when liquid metal is used.
