Something to look forward to: As development studio Rebel Wolves continues promoting its upcoming action RPG, The Blood of Dawnwalker, the company has revised the game's system requirements multiple times. Although the latest spec sheet assumes players use upscaling at all levels, it exclusively lists mid-range graphics cards, suggesting significant optimization progress.

The system requirements for The Blood of Dawnwalker have become significantly lighter since April. With upscaling as the primary caveat, the game's final spec sheet will come as good news for users with less than 16GB of video memory.

Set in medieval Southeastern Europe amid the Black Death, The Blood of Dawnwalker tasks players with overthrowing a group of vampires while controlling a character who can use magic by day and vampiric abilities by night. While transformed, players can drink blood, quickly traverse long distances, and freely climb walls.

The gameplay closely resembles The Witcher 3, with which it shares some development staff, including director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz. However, Dawnwalker will feature an even less linear storyline where players must choose which quests to pursue within a time limit, and most characters can die permanently. Time passes when players complete quests, and additional paths open as time progresses.

While Rebel Wolves has not extensively outlined the Unreal Engine 5 title's graphics technology, the company stresses that it will be playable on a broad range of hardware. Where the prior spec sheet demanded an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 (which can now cost nearly $5,000) to maintain 60fps in 4K at ultra settings, similar performance with upscaling and the same settings only requires a 4070 Ti or an AMD Radeon RX 9070 – a roughly 50% performance difference.

However, the new system requirements do not specify the recommended degree of upscaling. While a 50% decrease in required GPU performance for 4K ultra gameplay suggests the use of DLSS, FSR, or XeSS in performance mode, which would render from 1080p, Dawnwalker previously demanded the much weaker RTX 5060 for native 1080p gameplay.

Now, even a 4060 or an RX 7600 XT with just 8GB of VRAM will maintain 60fps in upscaled 1440p at high settings. Meanwhile, the requirement for 1080p 60fps gameplay has also been revised downward to a GeForce GTX 1070 Ti or RX 5700. Upscaled 1080p 30fps gameplay is possible with a GTX 1060 or RX 580 with just 6GB of VRAM. CPU specs have also fallen, but the game's 60GB storage requirement remains unchanged.

The Blood of Dawnwalker launches on Steam , PlayStation 5 , and Xbox Series X|S on September 3.
