Seasonic PRIME RX-1600 becomes first ATX power supply with 80 PLUS Ruby certification at 115V

Seasonic PRIME RX-1600 reaches 95% efficiency for 80 PLUS Ruby certification

Seasonic has become the first power supply manufacturer to earn 80 PLUS Ruby certification for an ATX power supply tested at 115V . The certification was awarded to the 1600W PRIME ENTERPRISE RX-1600, which is intended for high-power desktops, workstations and AI systems.

Ruby is the newest tier of the 80 PLUS certification program and sits above Titanium. For 115V non-redundant power supplies, the new rating requires 85% efficiency at 5% load, 91% at 10%, 93% at 20%, 95% at 50% and 91% at full load. CLEAResult also requires a power factor of at least 0.95 at 20% load.

Compared with Titanium, Ruby increases the required efficiency by one percentage point at 10%, 20%, 50% and 100% load. It also introduces a 5% load requirement, where the power supply must maintain at least 85% efficiency. This extends certification testing further into low-power operation rather than focusing only on medium and high loads.

For a 1600W power supply, the new 5% test corresponds to an 80W output load. The 10% test corresponds to 160W, while the 50% efficiency target is measured at 800W. Seasonic says higher conversion efficiency reduces the amount of power lost as heat, which can also lower the cooling requirement.

Seasonic returns to the top of the 80 PLUS table

Seasonic was also involved in two earlier 80 PLUS milestones. Its SS-400HT became the first 115V PC power supply certified under the program in 2005, while the company received the first 115V 80 PLUS Gold certification in 2008. The PRIME RX-1600 now adds the first 115V ATX Ruby certification to that list.

The official 80 PLUS requirements confirm that Ruby now applies to 115V internal non-redundant power supplies, including desktop and workstation units. CLEAResult lists Ruby above Titanium with the new 5% load requirement and higher efficiency targets at every other measured load point.
