The company has switched to the newer Intel Core Series 3 processors for superior battery life, starting at just $549.
Popular laptop manufacturer Framework has introduced its latest Laptop 12 series, featuring the Intel Core Series 3 processors. This series transitions from Intel 13th-gen SKUs to the latest Wildcat Lake processors, aiming at the affordable market while also delivering a power-efficient and lightweight experience.
The company says that they have also added Thunderbolt 4, WiFi 7, and features such as a fingerprint reader and a backlit keyboard. Also, this is the first time a pre-built version is preloaded with Fedora Linux for customers. The pre-orders have been opened and the first batch (Batch 1) will start shipping in October.

The Framework 12 is an existing laptop lineup that featured processors like Intel Core i5 1334U, but now the new laptop configurations will include SKUs such as the Core 3 304, Core 5 320, and Core 7 350. The Core 3 304 is the base configuration, featuring a 1+4 core configuration and up to 4.3 GHz, while the Core 5 320 and Core 7 350 will boast a 2+4 core configuration with up to 4.6-4.8 GHz.
With the change in the SKUs, users will receive either one Xe3-based iGPU or two Xe3 GPU cores if they opt for the Core 5 or Core 7 SKU. In any case, Framework promises high power efficiency for improved battery life, low noise, and better surface temperatures. The company says it has found that the Core 5 320-based Laptop 12 delivers a staggering 70% increase in battery life when streaming Netflix 4K content compared to the Core i5 1334U.

As far as connectivity is concerned, the Laptop 12 brings two expansion card slots that support Thunderbolt 4 for faster devices. The configuration can support up to 64 GB of DDR5-5600 memory and up to 2 TB of M.2 2230 storage. The price starts at $549, but when you add a single 8 GB DDR5 memory stick and a 500 GB SSD, the price reaches $844. By adding more memory and storage, the price will easily go past $1000, and will further increase as users add a dedicated OS, expansion cards, or customize the keyboard.
