GameNative adds real-time CPU and GPU tuning based on game FPS

GameNative has released version 1.2.0 as a prerelease with a new automatic CPU and GPU power control system. The feature supports selected AYN, Retroid Pocket and Samsung Android devices and is designed to reduce power consumption, temperatures and thermal throttling.
GameNative is an Android application for running PC games from Steam, Epic Games, GOG and Amazon directly on mobile hardware rather than through game streaming. The new Power Control system goes beyond selecting a fixed performance profile. It monitors game performance while the title is running and changes available CPU and GPU performance accordingly.

CPU and GPU clocks change according to FPS
The automatic tuner uses PID controllers to track the selected FPS target together with CPU and GPU utilization. If the game is running above its required performance level, GameNative can reduce the available CPU or GPU performance. It can increase those limits again when the system is unable to maintain the target frame rate. Separate controllers are used for the CPU and GPU, with anti-windup protection intended to prevent excessive corrections.

GameNative also includes an adaptive FPS limiter. The system starts from the user’s configured FPS cap and can adjust its behavior when the hardware cannot sustain it. GPU-bound detection uses separate thresholds, entering this state at 85% utilization and leaving it below 75%. The gap is intended to prevent the controller from repeatedly switching states when utilization changes around a single threshold.
Retroid Pocket 6 test drops Prime cores to 595 MHz
During development, the feature was tested with Unigine Superposition on a Retroid Pocket 6 using a 60/45/30 FPS target ladder. The system eventually locked the benchmark to 30.0 FPS with 0.35% slow frames. The Prime CPU cluster was capped at 595 MHz, listed as an 80% reduction, while the maximum CPU temperature reached 67°C and fan speed remained at around 25 to 35%.
© Github AYN and Retroid Pocket hardware can access the controls through PServer, while Samsung devices use Samsung’s Performance SDK. The system can also manage CPU governors, frequency limits, GPU performance and process affinity depending on available hardware support. Power settings are activated when a game starts and the original settings are restored when the session ends. GameNative 1.2 also improves power control for Odin 3 and adds support for the Retroid Pocket Nova.
Feature aside, it is still strange to see Unigine running on an Android device.
